| LP-Gas Regulator Tips
Installing First
Stage or Twin Stage Regulators
Use a new pigtail.
This helps keep the seat disc clean. Older pigtails can have foreign material flake off
internally. When the service valve is opened, the flow of gas forces the flakes into the
regulator inlet. This can cause the regulator to "creep" or not lock up -
resulting in higher than normal pressure and may cause the internal relief valve to open
resulting in gas venting to the atmosphere.

Point Vent down and/or
place under protective cover. This helps protect the regulator vent from
rain, freezing rain, snow, sleet, etc. It reduces the potential of water entering and
accumulating in the bonnet area.
Blocked vents can restrict air movement in and out of the
regulator. This affects delivery pressure and relief valve performance. Moisture in a
regulator can cause corrosion to the main and relief valve spring and other components,
resulting in higher than normal delivery pressure.

Underground Installation

Note: A water mark left in
housing dome at a level above regulator vent, or end of vent tube requires replacement or
regulator. Then correct installation.
Installing Second
Stage Regulators
Point vent down and/or
place under protective cover. This helps protect the regulator vent from
rain, freezing rain, snow, sleet, etc. It reduces the potential of water entering and
accumulating in the bonnet area.
Blocked vents can restrict air movement in and out of
the regulator. This affects delivery pressure and relief valve performance. Moisture in a
regulator can cause corrosion to the main and relief valve spring and other components,
resulting in higher than normal delivery pressure.
Install regulator at
least 12" to 18" above ground level. In many installations,
heights in excess of 18" may be required depending on snow depths and other
environmental conditions. The vent needs to be clear at all times and not blocked by snow,
ice, or other foreign material for the regulator to operate properly.

Regulator vent must be
piped to Outdoors in Indoor Installations. Use metal pipe or tubing, per
NFPA 58, that is equal to or greater than the diameter of the regulator vent - with the
termination pointing down and protected by a vent screen.

General
Recommendations:
Do not install Single
Stage Regulators on fixed pipe systems. According to NFPA 58, 1995
edition, all new domestic fixed pipe installations must use either a Two Stage System or
an Integral Twin Stage Regulator. Single Stage regulators may no longer be installed on
these systems.
Replace the regulator
if it has been submerged in water. Water from floods can fill the bonnet
and start to cause corrosion of the springs and components. If water enters below the
diaphragm, the seat disc and lever assembly can be damaged affecting proper performance.
Always keep the bonnet
cap in place and secure. If it is missing, replace the regulator. Insects
and water can enter into the bonnet area damaging the diaphragm and creating corrosion
problems with springs. Both of these problems can lead to the possibility of higher gas
pressure affecting downstream appliances. As with missing vent screens, don't take a
chance, replace the regulator.
Do not remove the
bonnet from the regulator to change the vent position, or attempt repairs.
Removing the bonnet from the body voids our warranty. We do not sell repair parts for the
diaphragm, linkage assembly, or springs. If you require a vent position other than
standard, we can supply alternate vent positions regulators. Contact your authorized RegO
Products distributor for ordering information.
Follow regulator
inspection guidelines. These inspections guidelines are specified in the
Safety Bulletin on Regulators in RegO Products L-500 and L-102 Catalogs.
In
General, inspect regulators regularly as outlined in the RegO® Products
regulator safety warning and replace as required per these recommendations.
When all these recommendations are followed, the recommended service
life of as ECII/RegO® regulator (except single stage) manufactured
after 1995 is 25 years. The
environment and conditions of use will determine the safe service life of these products.
The LP-Gas dealer knows better than anyone what this environment is. Periodic inspection
and maintenance are essential. Refer to our regulator inspection/replacement guidelines in
RegO Products L-500 and L-102 Catalogs.
